Deletion of a category may mean that the articles and images in it are directly put in its parent category, or that another subdivision of the parent category is made. If they are already members of more suitable categories, it may also mean that they become a member of one category less.

How to use this page

  1. Know if the category you are looking at needs deleting (or to be created). If it is a "red link" and has no articles or subcategories, then it is already deleted (more likely, it was never really created in the first place), and does not need to be listed here.
  2. Read and understand Wikipedia:Categorization before using this page. Nominate categories that violate policies here, or are misspelled, mis-capitalized, redundant/need to be merged, not NPOV, small without potential for growth, or are generally bad ideas. (See also Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Manual of Style.)
  3. Please read the Wikipedia:Categorization of people policy if nominating or voting on a people-related category.
  4. Unless the category to be deleted is non-controversial – vandalism or a duplicate, for example – please do not depopulate the category (remove the tags from articles) before the community has made a decision.
  5. Add {{cfd}} to the category page for deletion. (If you are recommending that the category be renamed, you may also add a note giving the suggested new name.) This will add a message to it, and also put the page you are nominating into Category:Categories for deletion. It's important to do this to help alert people who are watching or browsing the category.
    1. Alternately, use the rename template like this: {{cfr|newname}}
    2. If you are concerned with a stub category, make sure to inform the WikiProject Stub sorting
  6. Add new deletion candidates under the appropriate day near the top of this page.
    1. Alternatively, if the category is a candidate for speedy renaming (see Wikipedia:Category renaming), add it to the speedy category at the bottom.
  7. Make sure you add a colon (:) in the link to the category being listed, like [[:Category:Foo]]. This makes the category link a hard link which can be seen on the page (and avoids putting this page into the category you are nominating).
  8. Sign any listing or vote you make by typing ~~~~ after your text.
  9. Link both categories to delete and categories to merge into. Failure to do this will delay consideration of your suggestion.

Decade establishments by country

Keep. I guess it won't be reversed now, but these categories had more subcategories, but these have been slowly eroded for some obscure reason, and then deleted / upmerged because almost nothing was left, creating a kind of fait accompli (not as far as I know by Aidan721, just a general observation). For example, we used to have Category:990 establishments in France with e.g. Bourgueil Abbey in it, while Maillezais Cathedral was in the 989 category. So that would already create a second entry in two of the above cats. There were also entries for England or other countries in these decades (e.g. Ramsey Abbey). So basically, while they are currently near empty, they could quite easily be populated with a few additional entries each. Fram (talk) 18:05, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from Fort Liberty, North Carolina

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:COMMONNAME, and because the vast majority of these entries are incorrect. First, the relevant facts: The overwhelmingly common historical name for the location is Fort Bragg, as it currently is named and was known for 101 years, from 1922 to 2023. For a brief period from 2023-2025, it was controversially renamed to Fort Liberty by the Biden Administration. Last week, on 14 February 2025, it was formally renamed back to Fort Bragg (though technically, referring to a different namesake). So the current category is pointing to neither the common name nor the official name, but an significantly lesser-used, no-longer-accurate alternative name that was only applicable for less than 5% of the installation's history. Notably, this also means that the vast majority of these entries are not actually "People from Fort Liberty, North Carolina" -- unless they're two years old (spoiler: they're not), they were "People from Fort Bragg, North Carolina" at the relevant time in every case that I spotchecked. I previously had moved the category as this was not expected to be a controversial move; and was partway through manually moving the entries to verify there were no legitimate entrants from someone "from" Fort Liberty during the relevant two year period; however this was reverted by @Timrollpickering: before I completed it, and thus here we are. ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 09:30, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Category doesn't need to be disambiguated, the main article New Democratic Party isn't and the only other party by the same name is a minor one in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Official party name doesn't include of Canada unlike the Liberals or Conservative. If the category has to be disambiguated it should be renamed Category:New Democratic Party (Canada) politicians to reflect the official party name, otherwise the Category:New Democratic Party politicians is prefered.
